ParentSounds Podcast 02: Business Babies

TeachSurfing CEO Miganoush Magarian discusses social entrepreneurship before and after having children.

In this episode of the ParentSounds podcast: Miganoush Magarian, a social entrepreneur based in Hamburg, Germany. Originally from Armenia, Migan grew up in Iran, attended university in Stockholm, and has been living and working in different parts of Germany for over a decade. 8 years ago Miganoush – or Migan as she is known to many – started TeachSurfing.org, a teaching and learning platform connecting schools, universities, and NGOs worldwide with people who want to share knowledge.

Migan is also the mom of two young boys and, like some of our other ParentSounds interviewees, is someone I’ve known for a long time since we shared a coworking space in Berlin, and since I myself started being active on the TeachSurfing platform.

Entrepreneurship is a topic that’s been on the ParentSounds to-do list for some time.  It represents a different type of parent creativity to art or music, but it many ways it also has a lot in common.  Parent entrepreneurs juggle a lot of the same challenges as other parent creatives – from finding a way to earn an income doing what you love, to balancing work and family life when work is more than just a job.

In our interview Migan and I talked about time management, TeachSurfing before and after having kids, and what it’s like to be a parent while also being a “business parent”. Press play and join us for the second episode of the ParentSounds podcast!
